Tosin Demehin scores own goal in Stade de Reims big win over Bordeaux
By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
Nigeria defender Oluwatosin Demehin scored on the wrong side of the post during Saturday’s French D1 Arkema encounter as Stade de Reims thrashed Bordeaux 6-1.
Reims earned a win over the visitors with Cameroon forward Charlene Meyong opening scoring for the host in the 33rd minute.
Demehin’s 51st-minute own goal which evened the scoreline couldn’t spoil the show for Reims as Meyong restored Reims’s lead two minutes later before Sonia Ouchene made it 3-1.
In the closing stages, three more goals from Rachel Corboz (brace) and Daelle Melchie Dumornay completed the rout.
Demehin played the full 90 minutes while Rofiat Imuran was not dressed for the game by Reims.
The former Sunshine Queens defender joined Reims from Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership side, Rivers Angels, and quickly blend into the first team with nine league games so far this season.
Demehin was part of bronze winning Rivers Angels side during the 2022 NWFL Premiership Super Six in Benin City, Edo State and captained the Falconets to a quarter-final finish at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.
Reims occupy the sixth position with 20 points after 13 games and will face Soyaux in the Coupe de France before a league encounter with Guingamp next month.
