Troost-Ekong leads Super Eagles tributes as Stanley Nwabali mourns father’s death

The Nigerian football community has rallied around Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali following the heartbreaking news of his father’s passing.

The tragedy struck just after Nwabali played a pivotal role in securing Nigeria’s qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, where his heroics were crucial in helping the team achieve their goal.

In an emotional social media post, Nwabali shared his grief, writing, “I can’t help, I wish you knew what you have done. Goodbye, Dad. RIP Dad.” His heartfelt tribute to his father has touched the hearts of fans, teammates, and friends alike, all of whom have expressed their condolences and support during this incredibly difficult time.

Leading the outpouring of support was Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong, who took to social media to share a message of solidarity. “I love you, my brother; we dey together,” Troost-Ekong wrote, offering words of comfort and strength in Nwabali’s time of loss.

Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface also reached out to his teammate, simply writing, “Stay strong bro,” reflecting the close-knit bond shared by the team.

Fellow goalkeeper Amas Obasogie shared a more personal message, stating, “My Chief, I hold you close in our thoughts at this sad time. I’m deeply sorry for your profound loss.”

Fans from all over have also sent messages of support. One fan, Henry Ofurum, offered condolences by saying, “RIP papa, no wonder he was unlike him in yesterday’s match,” recognizing the emotional weight Nwabali carried into the game. Another fan, QueenPrecious Sule, added, “Omo, you are strong o. Still came to keep for yesterday’s match. May God give you the fortitude to bear the loss.”

Despite the personal grief, Nwabali’s strength and professionalism on the pitch, especially during such a challenging time, has not gone unnoticed. His teammates and the entire Nigerian football community have shown immense respect for his courage in the face of tragedy.
