Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, will be fighting to keep their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup hopes alive when they face France in a must-win Group A encounter.
The Flamingos are seeking redemption after a disappointing 4–1 loss to Canada in their opening match, a result that left them bottom of the group with zero points and a -3 goal difference.
France, in contrast, began their campaign with a 4–2 win over debutants Samoa and will approach the match full of confidence and momentum.
With qualification for the knockout stages hanging in the balance, Coach Bankole Olowookere’s side knows the stakes. Another loss would effectively end their World Cup journey, while a win would reignite their chances ahead of their final group fixture against Samoa.
Olowookere is expected to demand a more disciplined and organized performance from his team, who struggled with defensive transitions and cohesion in their opener.
“We need to be compact, focused, and clinical. Every moment will count against a team like France,” Olowookere said ahead of the clash.
The Flamingos will look to tighten their backline, improve ball retention, and play with renewed determination as they aim to get their campaign back on track.
