U20 World Cup: ‘Victory is very important for Nigeria against Italy’ – Austin Eguavoen

Head of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Technical Department, Austin Eguavoen insists victory over Italy will crucial to inch closer to the knockout stage of the FIFA U20 World Cup in Argentina.
Edison Azcona gave Dominican Republic the lead from the spot in the 23rd minute before Guillermo Rosario’s unfortunate own goal level for Nigeria eight minutes later and Samson Lawal’s 73rd minute effort sealed the win.
“It wasn’t an easy job. Every first game in a tournament is always very difficult. Football has gone beyond what it used to be,” Eguavoen told Brila FM.
Everybody expected that we will run over the Dominican Republic but it wasn’t the case. However, three points are very important. Don’t forget the anxiety that goes with every first game so that was what exactly happened. Congratulations to the team.”
Italy tops Group D after a 3-2 win against Brazil with the two-time finalist in second place ahead of Wednesday’s top-of-the-table clash.
