By Monsurah Olatunji
Nigerian forward Victor Olatunji made a remarkable debut in the UEFA Champions League, leading Sparta Prague to a convincing 3-0 victory over Red Bull Salzburg.
The 25-year-old not only scored a goal just before halftime but also provided an assist in the second half, showcasing his talent and impact on the game before being substituted in the 64th minute.
Olatunji’s celebration stole the spotlight as he performed Cristiano Ronaldo’s iconic “SIU” celebration and revealed an undershirt that read, “I Am A Chosen, who are you?”
This message references a popular social media trend in Nigeria related to church testimonies.
In a post-match interview with UEFA, Olatunji expressed his joy and satisfaction, saying, “I feel good, I feel great and I’m very happy for myself because I worked hard to get to this point. I’m also happy for the team.”
He emphasized the significance of scoring, stating, “I just wanted to put the ball in the back of the net. It was my only dream for tonight.”
Reflecting on the team’s performance, he noted, “We always play like a team – I really enjoyed it. For the third goal, I could have shot but I wanted to give us a bigger chance [of scoring] because missing that chance would not have been good for the team.”
Olatunji’s debut not only highlighted his individual skills but also his commitment to teamwork and collective success.
