UEL: Victor Boniface ends goal drought in Bayer Leverkusen win

By Monsurah Olatunji
Nigeria international, Victor Boniface has ended his five-match goal drought with his fourth Europa League goal of the season in their 2-0 win against Swedish side BK Häcken in Göteborg on Thursday.
His Bayer Leverkusen side have secured qualification to the 2023/24 Europa League Round-of 16 while keeping their unbeaten run.
Boniface found the opener while Patrik Schick, who came off the bench to replace Nathan Tella, netted the winner.
The 22-year-old was only on the pitch for 46 minutes and needed just 14 minutes to make his mark.
He was substituted just before the start of the second half after he picked up an unnecessary yellow card just moments after his goals.
The Super Eagles star completed 91% of his passes and won 100% of his tackles during which he nodded home after a nice combo involving Josip Stanisic and Nathan Tella on the right-hand side leading to a Stansic’s cross to put Bayer in front.
It was Boniface’s only effort of the game before super-sub Schick sealed the win in the 74th minute.
However, the Nigerian forward has now bagged 12 goals in 18 games for Bayer Leverkusen so far across all competitions this season.
