Nigeria international Victor Boniface has narrated the inspiring story behind the viral throwback picture of him and his namesake Victor Osimhen.
The two Victors are currently making waves in European football, with Boniface receiving a top scorer award in the UEFA Europa League, and Osimhen securing a nomination for the 2023 Ballon d’Or.
The picture tagged “Then vs. Now” serves as a reminder of how swiftly time has passed since their youth.
The Bayer Leverkusen hitman posted an old picture of him with Osimhen when they were rookies in the game, side-by-side with their latest picture in the Eagles camp.
“That picture, it was not like I knew Osimhen before. That picture was when he was in the under-20s, and we were in the under-17s then,” Boniface told Pulse Sports.
“After they won the Under-17 World Cup (in 2015), they were preparing [for the under-20s], and so they played a game with the under-23s – the Olympic team – and we were there to give respect to them.
“After the game, they allowed us to come in and snap pictures. So me and my friends went to Victor to take a picture with him. I was like a fan then.
“When I moved to Belgium, we then became friends. He [would] text me to advise me and stuff. So, we met each other the last time we had holidays, so that’s why you could see in the video that we were not meeting for the first time.”
