Victor Olatunji’s late strike boosts Sparta Praha’s title hopes

By Dayo Awoniyi

Victor Olatunji’s late goal helped Sparta Praha secure a crucial 2-1 victory over Sigma Olomouc in the Czech Liga on Saturday, reigniting their title challenge.

The Nigerian striker scored the decisive goal in the 87th minute, netting his seventh of the season to lift Sparta Praha into second place in the league, 10 points behind leaders Slavia Prague.

Olatunji’s strike has set the stage for a thrilling Prague derby on March 8, where Sparta will aim to close the gap with their rivals.

Sparta Praha had initially taken the lead in the 25th minute through Jan Kuchta’s goal, but Sigma Olomouc equalized just 12 minutes later courtesy of Filip Zorvan’s finish.

Olatunji, who came on in the 61st minute, proved to be the match-winner, receiving a precise long pass from Jaroslav Zeleny before finding the back of the net.

His impactful performance earned him the Player of the Match award and provided a much-needed boost for Sparta Praha’s title aspirations.

As the Prague derby approaches, Olatunji’s form will be crucial to their pursuit of the league crown.
