Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen paid an emotional tribute to his injured teammate Mauro Icardi after scoring a brace in Galatasaray’s vital 3-2 win over second-place Samsunspor on Sunday.

Icardi, the Argentine forward, suffered a serious ACL injury during their Europa League clash against Tottenham on Thursday and has now been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

In a show of solidarity and support for his teammate, Osimhen celebrated his first goal by lifting Icardi’s shirt into the air, sending a heartfelt message to the striker, who watched from the stands.

After scoring his second goal, Osimhen ran to the corner flag and performed Icardi’s signature celebration, a gesture that brought a smile to the injured forward’s face as he applauded from the sidelines, visibly moved by the thoughtful tribute.

The pair had formed a deadly partnership at the forefront of Galatasaray’s attack, with 16 goals between them since Osimhen’s loan move from Napoli. Their understanding on the pitch had played a crucial role in the club’s strong start to the season.

However, with Icardi now sidelined for the rest of the campaign, questions remain about how head coach Okan Buruk will adjust his attacking setup.

It remains to be seen whether Osimhen will be paired with Michy Batshuayi or deployed as a lone striker as Galatasaray looks to defend their Süper Lig title and make a statement in the Europa League.
