Victor Osimhen reacts after breaking George Weah’s Italian Serie A record

The Nigerian scored the winner against Fiorentina as the Partenopei returned to the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium since winning their first Serie A title in 33 years away at Udinese.
The goal was Osimhen’s 47th league goal surpassing the only African Ballon d’Or winner, Weah, who had 46 goals during his time in Italy.
Victor was questioned about the newly set record and in a mood of elation, he explained how happy he is breaking a record previously held by an African icon such as the Liberian President made him feel.
“It is really amazing, a big respect to George Weah, he has put Africa on the map when he was playing here for AC Milan,” Osimhen told BT Sport.
“I think for me to surpass him, for me it is a big honor a big respect to him. His son Timothy Weah is my very good friend, and I want to say he has inspired a lot of African players and I am happy to surpass his record.
“He will forever be a legend to me, and I am really happy about this feat.”
In a thread, the 24-year-old Super Eagles star went on to drop an appreciative message as he called President Weah one of his idols.
“Wile growing up, I have always admired the great achievements of so many African legends and His Excellency George Weah is one of them, an Icon in the world of football and also a leader to his people,” he wrote on twitter.
