Victor Osimhen reveals influence of Henry Onyekuru in decision to join Galatasaray

Victor Osimhen’s move to Galatasaray has been significantly influenced by conversations with his national teammate, Henry Onyekuru.
Despite attracting interest from high-profile clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, and PSG, Osimhen opted for a season-long loan to the Turkish giants, as no team met his substantial €130 million release clause.
Osimhen, the reigning African Player of the Year and a key figure in Napoli’s Serie A title win, has followed in the footsteps of fellow Nigerians Henry Onyekuru and Oghenekaro Etebo, who have previously played for Galatasaray.
Onyekuru, in particular, played a notable role during his time at the club, becoming their top scorer in 2019 with 16 goals and contributing to their Turkish FA Cup victory.
“Henry Onyekuru is my friend and he played for Galatasaray,” Osimhen explained upon joining the club. “He spoke highly of the club, the fans, and the people here. His positive remarks made the decision much easier for me.”
Osimhen’s warm reception upon arriving at the airport, where fans greeted him with enthusiasm, further reinforced his excitement about the move.
“When I landed at the airport, the fans welcomed me with so much emotion that I felt very happy. These things are important for a player. I want to do everything I can for them. I can’t wait to start this project. I’m very excited.”
Osimhen’s arrival is expected to bolster Galatasaray’s attacking options as he embarks on this new chapter with the Turkish giants.
