Victor Osimhen Shows Class After Declining Captain’s Armband in Galatasaray Win

Victor Osimhen displayed a touching moment of humility during Galatasaray S.K.’s 3–1 victory after being offered the captain’s armband by İlkay Gündoğan.

Following the substitution of the team captain, Gündoğan moved to hand the armband to Osimhen. However, the Nigerian striker politely declined and encouraged the experienced midfielder to keep it and continue leading the side.

Speaking after the match, Osimhen explained his decision.

“İlkay is someone I have great respect for. He is a very valuable person to me and to millions of football fans.

“Honestly, when he brought me the captain’s armband, it felt strange. I gave it back to him so he could lead us.”

The gesture was widely viewed as a mark of respect from the Super Eagles forward, underlining his admiration for the accomplished midfielder.

Osimhen also made his mark on the pitch, scoring and providing an assist in the 3–1 victory to cap off an impressive individual performance.
