Nigeria superstar Victor Osimhen has been named the best player for the 2022/23 Serie A season at the Gran Gala Del Calcio held in Milan on Monday night.
After firing the Partenopei to their first Scudetto in 33 years, Osimhen and his teammates were recognized across various categories at the award, with the most prestigious award of the night, the Player of the Year, being the last to be handed out.
The award which is voted on and presented by the Italian Footballers’ Association AIC began in 1968, and previous editions have been won by the likes of Rafael Leao, Gianluigi Buffon, Cristiano Ronaldo, Andrea Pirlo, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The Nigerian international finished the 2022/23 season as the top scorer in recognized 26 goals, becoming the first-ever African Capocannoniere.
His attacking partner, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia who was named the official Serie A MVP for the 2022/23 season when Osimhen was honored as best striker, won the best goal of the season award for his mazy run and finish against Atalanta.
Meanwhile, Napoli was crowned as the club of the year, while their former coach Luciano Spalletti picked up the award for best coach.
However, Osimhen leads the attack as only three teams have players picked for the team of the season with both the Milan teams strongly represented.
