Nigeria forward Vivian Ikechukwu scored her first-ever goal for Mexican Liga MX women’s Clausura side, Santos Laguna Saturday.
Her goal was not enough as Santos Laguna suffered a 3-1 loss to league leader Pachuca.
Myra Delgadillo scored the first goal of the encounter in the 11th minute at the Estadio Corona, Torreon.
In the 34th minute, Ikechukwu restored parity with an individual brilliance.
She powerfully raced past two Pachuca players before shipping the ball over the goalkeeper into the back of the net.
Pachuca captain, Veronica Corral restored her side’s lead in the 82nd minute of play.
Three minutes later, Andrea Pereira made it 3-1 for the travelers.
Ikechukwu, who scored her first goal for Santa Laguna since she switched from another Mexican side, Cruz Azul, was replaced by Mayra Santana in the 81st minute.
Chinwendu Ihezuo came off for Alexandra Godinez in the 94th minute while her Pachuca teammate and compatriot, Osinachi Ohale played the duration of the match.
Pachuca remained top of the table with 25 points after nine games, a point ahead of Club America.
They will host Necaxa on March 4, 2025, in their next league match.
Santos Laguna, on the other hand, sits in the 16th position with three points ahead of their next game against Queretaro on March 5.
