WAFU-B Qualifier: Edo Deputy Governor Shaibu promises Delta Queens N1m per goal

Deputy Governor of Edo State,Philip Shaibu has promised a sum of one million Naira per goal in a bid to boost the morale of Delta Queens at the West Africa Zone B (WAFU-B) Women’s Champions League qualifiers in Benin City.

Shaibu who visited the team’s dressing room before the semi-final match got underway made a pledge of one million Naira per goal scored ahead of the Nigerian champions’ semi-final clash with Athletico FC of Ivory Cost on Monday.

Despite conceding an early their first goal in the tournament, Tosab Blankson’s side bounced back with three goals, two in the extra time after 90 minutes to secure a 3-2 win irrespective of Athletico FC’s late scare.
The win and three goals guaranteed a sum of three million Naira for the team from the host state’s Deputy Governor.
 The Asaba-based side will now shift focus on the final match against Amepm Darkoa of Ghana on Thursday in a bid to become the second Nigerian side to win the WAFU-B title.
Hassacas FC Ladies of Ghana won the maiden edition in 2021 against Rivers Angels of Nigeria. Bayelsa Queens clinched the last edition in 2022, defeating Ampem Darkoa in the final match in Ivory Coast.
Nigeria and Ghana teams have played every edition of the WAFU-B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers final.
