WAFU-B U-20 Women’s Cup: Nigeria captain Oluchi Ohaegbulem declares title ambition

After a 7-0 bashing of Niger Republic in its opening game of the maiden WAFU-B U-20 Women’s Cup, Nigeria U-20 girls captain, Oluchi Ohaegbulem has described the victory as a massive one for the team.
FC Robo Queens’ forward, Esther Ajakaye score a hat-trick for Christopher Danujuma’s side with Chinyere Kalu, Adaobi Okah, Jumoke Alani, and Chioma Olise completed the rout for the West African giants on Sunday in Kumasi.
“I like to describe the team’s victory as a good and a massive one because going to face a team either big or small, there is a lot of work to do. You need to work your winning which we did.” Oluchi told www.nigeriafootball.ng
“Although we had a lot of chances we should have taken but then we still give glory to God Almighty for the victory.
“Our ambition and target is to win our first match at all costs. In every tournament, the first match counts and matters a lot. It gives you more courage ahead of the next game.”
They will look to gurantee teir place in the semi-final when they meet the Togolese in their second match of the competition and the skipper assures that they will leave nothing to chance to return home with the maiden title.
“I want Nigerians to watch out for the three goal scorers. They are great and excellent players. Having amazing players like them in a team is a positive addition to the team.
“They should watch out for the three scorers in our next matches. We aim to lift the trophy. We didn’t come to Ghana to just come and play. We are here to lift the trophy. I would urge all Nigerians out there to keep supporting us and they should expect more wins from us because that’s the only way we can bring back the trophy.”
Danjuma’s side topped Group B with three points and a massive goal difference ahead of second-placed Burkina Faso which defeated Togo 2-0.
On Wednesday, Niger Republic and Burkina Faso will commence their hostilities at 4 pm, before the Falconets tango with Togo from 7 pm.
The group stage comes to a close for the Nigerians on Sunday, against Burkina Faso at Paa Joe Stadium from 4 pm.
