“We Deserve Commendation, Not Condemnation” — Kanu Nwankwo Defends Enyimba Management

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Former Nigeria international and Chairman of Enyimba FC, Kanu Nwankwo revealed he took over a club lacking basic infrastructure — no proper office, camp, training pitch, or feeder teams. Even the club’s trophies were not properly stored.

He emphasized that his administration has prioritized laying a sustainable foundation, including creating youth teams and working on dedicated facilities like a formal office and clubhouse.

Kanu urged fans and stakeholders to be patient and offer constructive criticism rather than attack the current leadership.

His goal is to make Enyimba not just the most titled club in Nigeria, but the most professionally run, with long-term stability and development at its core.

He lauded the NNL for its grassroots impact, specifically praising the quality of the 2025 Super 8 tournament in Asaba.

Kanu’s statements reflect the difficult balancing act between short-term expectations and long-term rebuilding. While Enyimba fans have every right to be concerned with poor performances, it’s clear the current leadership is focusing on addressing deep-rooted structural flaws rather than seeking quick fixes.

This approach — though often slow to yield results — could place Enyimba on firmer ground for sustainable success, both on and off the pitch. His credibility as a global football figure also gives weight to the vision he’s presenting.

Kanu’s appeal is a reminder that rebuilding a football institution goes beyond wins and losses. If his administration can stay the course and deliver on promised reforms, Enyimba could not only regain dominance but also set the standard for professional club management in Nigeria.
