‘We need to appreciate the performance’ – Monday Odigie on Insurance draw with RS Berkane

Head Coach of Nigerian side, Bendel Insurance, Monday Odigie has picked positives from his side’s 2-2 draw with Moroccan side, RS Berkane at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
The two sides were not separated after 90 minutes in the first leg of the second-round match of the 2023/2024 CAF Confederation Cup in Benin City on Saturday.
Imade Osarenkhoe had put the host ahead in the 28th minute but Oussama Lamlioui equalised for the former Confederation Cup champions in the 42nd minute.
On the hour mark, Paul Obata restored Monday Odigie’s side lead. The Moroccans equalised for the second time seven minutes from the final whistle thanks to a goal from Mohamed El Morabit before regulation time.
The unfortunate scenario saw Odigie fumed at while appreciating the players’ performance.
“Football is all about participation,” Odigie told journalists after the match.
“It’s not all about winning. We wanted to win the game but if it didn’t come we go back and prepare next time.
“We played against RS Berkane that has won this tournament. Can we please appreciate our team?
“We are going to defend the pride of our country. We need to appreciate the performance of the team.”
