Why Nigerian clubs couldn’t win CAF club competitions – Ibrahim Gusau

The Nigeria Football Federation President, Ibrahim Gusau has said that the performance of the clubs at the continental is the reflection of the domestic league.
Gusau  admitted that the League is not being managed such that the teams representing Nigeria would dominate their African counterparts.
“It all about those in charge of the league to do the best thing that will help the players and officials,” Gusau said in a statement.
:The league has not been moving in the proper direction that we want it to. So, obviously, you dont expect miracle at the continental level. If you are not even comfortable with it at home, how do you get positive results at the continental level.
“But on the other side, for the past three or four years, there are little significant improvement on the league which is manifesting now. We have seen it. We have significant improvement in managing our Women’s league and all can see the results.
He however promised to put all hands on the deck to improve the standard of Nigeria league.
“We all need to do something to improve the standard of Nigeria league and by the grace of God people will see much improvement soon.”
Enyimba International won the CAF Champions League back to back in 2003 and 2004 just nine years after Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan won the CAF Cup in 1992. Since then, no Nigeria club have won neither the Champions League nor the Confederation Cup.
