Whyte Ogbonda: Bayelsa Queens coach targets Super Six qualification after barren draw with Ibom Angels

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Former league winners, Bayelsa Queens played out a 0-0 draw with Ibom Angels in their second match of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership in Uyo on Wednesday.

This followed a hard-fought 1-0 win over Delta Queens the previous match with Sefiat Idris scoring a later goal in the 94th minute.

The low-scoring start to the season for the Prosperity Girls might have been a thing of concern for Bayelsans, but the former Rivers Angels gaffer says he and his assistants are working on their goal-scoring strengths.

“Football is about scoring goals, so I am in support of an attacking style,” he said after the team’s latest match.

While focusing on qualifying for the Super Six Playoffs, Whyte is aware of the expectations from fans of the club.

“I know the expectations of Bayelsans and I will work diligently with my assistants towards the goal of qualifying the Prosperity Girls for the Super Six and winning the trophy,” He concluded.

With four points from two games, the Yenegoa-based side hopes to put on their scoring boots in their next match.

They will tackle debutant, Benue Queens in their next game on Wednesday.
