Wilfred Ndidi Eager to Make World Cup Debut

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi has expressed his anticipation and excitement at the prospect of making his FIFA World Cup debut in Russia in 2018. The Nigerian national team secured their place in the World Cup after a 1-0 victory against Zambia, becoming the first African country to qualify for the tournament.

Reflecting on this achievement, Ndidi, who has been a key player in the Super Eagles’ World Cup qualifying campaign, spoke of his delight and the significance of the qualification, particularly after Nigeria’s failure to qualify for consecutive Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

“It means a lot,” Ndidi stated. “I feel great and I feel very happy about it. Everyone is happy because we didn’t play at the Africa Cup of Nations, so everyone is happy to see the team going to the World Cup.”

He also emphasized the aspiration of every player to participate in the World Cup and expressed his eagerness for the tournament. “For me, I feel every player wants to play at the World Cup, so until I get there, I won’t know what it feels like, but for now, I just can’t wait.”

Ndidi, who returned to Leicester City earlier this week in preparation for a Premier League clash with West Brom, emphasized the importance of focusing on the league and securing victories, particularly against West Brom. He highlighted the need to gather as many points as possible to improve their standing in the table.

As they prepare for their league encounters, Ndidi and his Leicester City teammates aim to harness the energy and enthusiasm of the fans and elevate their position in the league standings. Currently, they are positioned 17th in the league table with five points.

Ndidi’s commitment and readiness to represent his country and club are evident, and he sees this opportunity as a significant moment in his career. He acknowledged the privilege of playing at the highest level and remains determined to make the most of it.
