Women’s World Cup Round of 16: Time and where to watch England vs Nigeria

By: Monsurah Olatunji

Nigeria progressed to the last 16 of the Women’s World Cup after a goalless draw against the Republic of Ireland and will next face the European Champions, England.
The game will be played at the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, where England opened their campaign against Haiti.
However, England have arguably the player of the tournament so far in Lauren James and will feel they can get through to the last eight.
England comes into the match as favorites having topped Group D with a 100 percent record.
On their part, Nigeria finished second in Group B after drawing 0-0 with both Canada and Ireland, but beating co-hosts Australia 3-2 in a thriller.
Nigeria are ranked 40th in the world and were not expected to come out of their group, but have created one of the best stories of the tournament.
With the West Africans form, England will need to be wary of being on the wrong end of another upset.
On head-to-head meetings, the Lionesses were victorious when both sides met in the final group game at the 1995 World Cup thanks to Karen Farley’s brace in a 3-2 victory.
However, the Super Falcons have emerged victorious in recent meetings, beating England 3-0 in April 2004 and 1-0 in July 2002.
England vs Nigeria will be on Monday 7 August, kicking off at 8.30 am Nigerian time. The clash between England and Nigeria will be shown live on DStv, GOtv, and Afrosports, and can be streamed live on fifa+.
