YSFON Ramat Cup: Kwara send strong warning with big win as quarter-final cast takes shape

Kwara State’s U-16 side stamped their authority on the 40th edition of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) Ramat Cup International on Tuesday, delivering a crushing 9–1 defeat to Plateau State to finish the group stage with maximum points.

The win the biggest in the tournament so far — capped a flawless run for Kwara, who had earlier dispatched hosts Nasarawa 4–2 and edged Sokoto 2–0 in Group A. Their ruthless display now positions them as one of the favourites for the title in Lafia.

Nasarawa also secured a place in the last eight with a 2–0 victory over Sokoto, finishing second in the group with six points.

Elsewhere, Benue topped Group B after a 3–0 win over Gombe, who still advanced in second place. Bauchi and Ondo claimed the two quarter-final slots from Group C, with Bauchi’s 3–0 triumph over Ondo sealing their perfect record.

The last two quarter-final berths will be decided tomorrow in Group D, where Kaduna and Enugu are tied on four points, Borno sit on three, and Zamfara are yet to earn a point.

Quarter-final action kicks off on Thursday, August 14, with Kwara facing Gombe at 9:00 a.m., followed by Benue against hosts Nasarawa at 10:00 a.m. Bauchi will meet the second-placed team from Group D at 11:00 a.m., before the group winners battle Ondo at noon.

Semi-finals are slated for Friday, while the grand finale and third-place match will take place on Saturday, all at the Lafia City Stadium.

The tournament honours the late Head of State, General Murtala Ramat Mohammed.
