Twelve clubs have been confirmed to participate in the fifth edition of the Sapphire Nigeria Women Football Supporters Club (SNWFSC) International Girl Child Day (IGCD) event.

Over the years, the annual initiative has positively impacted more than 2,000 young girls, inspiring many to pursue careers in sports through mentorship, education, and competitive football.

This year’s edition is scheduled for Saturday, October 11, 2025, at the Albati Barracks Mini Stadium, Surulere, with the theme “Climate Change.”

President of SNWFSC, Jadesola Okaiyhan Adelabu, expressed optimism that the 2025 edition will be the most memorable yet, marking the event’s fifth anniversary milestone.

“This year’s edition is special and we expect it to surpass all previous ones,” Adelabu said. “We urge all participants to be of good behaviour and look forward to an exciting and educative experience.”

The participating teams include Unizee Sheila FC, Flourish Queens, Dominion Queens, United Squad Angels, Wazbak Queens, Phoenix Queens, Victory Queens, Ablaze Amazons, STM Doves, Smart Queens, and two selected secondary school teams.

Aside from the football competition, the event will feature mentoring sessions and developmental programs led by renowned sports personalities aimed at empowering and motivating young girls across Nigeria.
