2023 Africa Cup of Nations: Super Eagles in tricky group with hosts Cote d’Ivoire

Nigeria’s senior national team has been drawn in Group A for the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire

The draw which took place on Thursday saw the three times African champions in the same group as host, Ivory Coast.

Jose Peseiro’s side will also face two Guinean sides, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea Bissau in the group.

Senegalese captain, Sadio Mane who was one of the draw assistants picked Nigeria out from Pot 2 to face the host.

The draw re-enacts the West African rivalry between the Super Eagles and the Elephants.

Nigeria beat Cote d’Ivoire 2-1 in the quarter-final enroute winning the 2013 AFCON, the last the team lifted the African title.

Meanwhile, Egypt, Ghana, Cape Verde, and Mozambique are in Group B.

Group C houses holders, in Senegal, Cameroon, Guinea, and the Gambia.

Algeria, Burkina Faso, Mauritania, and Angola are in Group D as Group E comprises Tunisia, Mali, South Africa, and Namibia.

The last group (Group F) is made up of Morocco, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Tanzania.
