By Wale Mustapha
Technical Adviser of Plateau United, Fidelis Ilechukwu has commended his players for weathering through the storm of beating Kwara United 1-0 in the quarterfinal of 2023 Federation Cup on Sunday in Abuja.
Adam Yakubu scored the lone goal of the match to earn the Tin City club the semifinal berth against Rangers Int’l when he reached to the end of flick header from Mustapha Ibrahim in last minute of the first half.
After the win, the tactician lauded his players for their good display, while asking for more in subsequent stages.
“Sometimes, football gives you more than what asked and can also give you less, but I think We’ve done beyond what I expect the team to do, despite having most of our players down with injuries,” Ilechukwu told NigeriaFootball.ng.
“Some out of form and with how the season ended for us in the NPFL, I think this is a good result for us and we hope to build on it.
“Kwara did better than us in the second half, they controlled the game, especially in the midfield, I give kudos to our team especially the defenders and our goalkeeper for giving us this victory.
“We know where we need to work on ahead of semifinal with Rangers and we are also hoping most of our injured players will be back early for it.”
