By Saheed Afolabi
Rivers Angels head coach, Edwin Okon has revealed his side’s target to win this year’s Federation Cup title after defeating Nasarawa Amazons 2-1 at the Akure Township Stadium, Akure.
The Pride of Port-Harcourt were not at their best form when the season started but they were able to pick up from their blemishes and rode to become title contenders.
Rivers Angels veteran gaffer said the team is improving in every contest and his glad they are in the Federation Cup final, while stressing their desire for the ninth crown against the Prosperity ladies.
“The team improve everyday and in every game. I’m happy that we are in the final,” Okon told Rivers Angels Media.
“We have won the Federation Cup eight times and we are looking forward to the day that we will be crowned for the ninth time.
“Nasarawa Amazons were in the group B of the NWFL Premiership and we were in group A, both of us met for the first time today and it concerns the goal, I’m not the referee.
“I’m not that good in blaming the referees, they are the chief judge at that level but I am happy that at the end of the day after they equalized, though it’s an offside goal by me but I’m not the judge as they equalized by second half we were able to wrap it up and that’s why we are in the final today.”
The Pride of Port-Harcourt will be facing the Prosperity Girls in the final of the Federation Cup and the last time both sides met in the tournament, Bayelsa Queens trounced Rivers Angels 5-0 in the semifinal of the 2021 edition of the tournament which they went onto win as they defeated Robo Queens 4-2 in the final.
