Two Edo Queens players made the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League Best XI for the group stage.
This followed the team’s impressive performance of finishing top of Group B and ensuring the end of two-time champions, Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies (South Africa), participation in the tournament.
A 3-1 stunning win for Moses Aduku’s side over Jerry Tshabalala’s lass ensured the Benin City-based side sailed through to the semi-final when they will face TP Mazembe on Tuesday.
Emem Essien and Cordelia Odoma made the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League group stage Best XI alongside nine other players, dominated by four players from host AS FAR FC (Morocco).
Essien scored two goals, one each, against Commercial Bank of Ethiopia FC and Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, playing a pivotal role in the team’s qualification for the last four alongside youngster Odoma.
With a perfect record so far in the competition, the host AS FAR FC got four players, Khadija Er-ermichi, Nouhaila Benzina, Doha El Madani, and Sanaa Mssoudy in the team of the group stage.
Egyptian side FC Masar was represented by Nankya Shadia and forward Sandrine Niyonkuru.
Karabo Dhlamini (Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies), Amogelang Motau (University of Western Cape, South Africa), and Lachi Marta (TP Mazembe, Democratic Republic of Congo) complete the Best XI.
The semi-final, third place, and final match later this week will determine the team of the tournament and nomination for the women’s inter-club categories for the 2024 CAF Awards in Morocco.
