2025 CHAN Qualifiers: Super Eagles B team share spoils with Black Galaxies in Accra

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigeria senior men’s national Team B played out a 0-0 draw with Ghana in the first leg of the 2025 Championship of African Nations (CHAN) Qualifiers at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

Black Galaxies coach Mas Ud Didi started Benjamin Asare, Isaac Afful, Kamaridini Mamudu, Ebenezer Abban, Razak Simpson, Hafiz, Issah Yakubu, Stephen Amankona, Manuel Mantey, Mustapha Yakubu, Albert Amoah.

For Daniel Ogunmodede, Ozoemena Ani started in goal for Nigeria with Ismail Sodiq, Imo Obot, Nduka Junior, Ifeanyi Onyebuchi, Babajide Fatokun, Savious Isaac, Musa Zayyad, Adamu Abubakar, Anas Yusuf, and Sikiru Alimi also getting starter shirts.

The host had chances to win the match but a strong and resolute Nigerian defence prevented any goal.

Stephen Amankwoo found a leeway through the Eagles’ defence in the 15th minute only to see his rising shot go inches wide of Henry Ozoemena’s goal-post.

Sikiru Alimi’s free-kick, with a minute to half time, also went over the sticks as the game became a ding-dong affair between the regional powerhouses.

The scoreless affair is the best result Nigeria have earned against Ghana away in any qualifying contest for the African Nations Championship, with the Eagles losing 2-3 to their hosts in 2008 and then getting spanked by two goals in 2022.

The 2018 silver medalist held on to a precious point ahead of the return leg.

The second leg will be held at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, on Saturday, 28th December.

The winner, on aggregate, will pick a ticket to the 8th African Nations Championship taking place in Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda, 1st – 28th February 2025.
