By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Rwandan senior men’s national team recorded a 2-0 win against South Africa to top Group C of Africa’s World Cup Qualifiers on Tuesday.

South Africa topped the table ahead of the clash at the Stade Huye, Butare.

It took just 12 minutes for the host to break the deadlock thanks to Innocent Nshuti.

Lague Byiringiro was credited with the assist for the opener and Ange Mutsinzi set up Gilbert Mugisha’s 28th minute to seal the win for Rwanda.

The Zimbabwean team moved to the top of Group C with four points ahead of South Africa (3 points), Nigeria, Zimbabwe, and Lesotho on two points.

Benin Republic has a point after two games in the qualification series.

Teams will now focus on the next African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast before the next qualifying games in 2024.
