Championship: Wilfred Ndidi and Josh Maja shine as Leicester City sink West Brom

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Nigerian duo of Wilfred Ndidi and Josh Maja were in fine forms as Leicester City edged West Brom 2-1 in the second-tier English Championship game on Saturday.

Enzo Maresca’s side entered the final half-hour of the match without a shot on target despite huge possession, compelling the Italian manager to introduce Issahaku Fatawu in hopes of drawing the first blood.

The Ghanaian had broken the deadlock in the Foxes’ 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday last Matchday.

Leicester finally managed to make a difference, as minutes after Ndidi managed to test Alex Palmer with a shot from the tightest of angles, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall found himself at the end of a pinpoint cross, netting a bullet header with 17 minutes left on the clock.

Having denied the best-performing home side in the Championship since last November a sixth home clean sheet in their last seven hostings, the Foxes’ became complacent and late on, conceding the equaliser via Maja’s opportune debut goal at the death from point-blank range following a defensive mishap.

However, the Foxes slyly saved their best for the last with a lightening quick counterattack initiated by Kelechi Iheanacho as Dewsbury-Hall assisted Harry Winks to win the game and inflict the Baggies’ first defeat in seven outings at home.

Ndidi was replaced by Cesare Casedei in the 87th minute after providing his fourth assist of the campaign.

Iheanacho played a full 90 minutes for the visitors.

Maja came in for Grady Diangana before scoring his first goal for the Baggies.

Leicester top the log with 46 points, four points ahead of Ipswich which has an outstanding game.

West Brom occupy the fifth position and one of the Playoffs places with 32 points.
