By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

As Edo Queens prepare to face FC Masar in the third-place match of the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League, the team has been receiving accolades with nominations ahead of the next CAF Awards.

The club, coach, and players got nominated for various categories in the women’s category of the 2024 CAF Awards

The head coach of the team, Moses Aduku, who got nominated for the women’s coach of the year, is on cloud nine for the recognition.

“Honestly when I got the news, I was overwhelmed. In Nigeria, last season that just passed, I was voted the best coach of the season,” Aduku said during the pre-match press conference.

“My players, some got personal awards. I was looking forward to doing well in this competition to be the best coach.

“Yesterday my name was there. I was nominated as one of the best coaches. I am excited and happy alongside my players.”

Apart from the coach and player, Emem Essien was nominated for the CAF Women’s Interclub Player of the Year alongside goalkeeper Omini Oyono.

Oyono also made the list of nominees for the Goalkeeper of the Year award while the team alongside seven others which qualified for the CAF Women’s Champions League made the women’s club of the year nomination.

“The award nomination has raised emotions in the camp that we are recognized. Even Edo Queens as a team is being recognized. We are grateful to CAF for all those who picked us. Its a good thing.” He concluded.

The team will now focus on winning the bronze medal against the Egyptian side on Friday to equal Bayelsa Queens’ 2022 record of Nigeria’s best finish at the tournament.
