Adanna Nwachukwu nets four as Naija Ratels crush Paul E to clinch FCT FA Cup title

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Adanna Nwachukwu scored four goals as Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership side, Naija Ratels FC thrashed Paul E in the final of the 2023 Federal Capital Territory (FCT) FA Cup final in Abuja on Saturday.

Nwachukwu opened the scoring through a poor goalkeeping from Paul E shotstopper in the 13th minute.

Folorunsho doubled the lead through a brilliant long range effort six minutes later before Nwachukwu bagged her second and third in the 26th minute and 36th minute respectively to ensure a four-goal advantage at half time.

After the break, Paul E ensured a clinical restart thanks to the individual brilliance of their goalkeeper but Aisha Animashaun eventually broke their resilience when she struck from a rebound in the 77th minute.

Nwachukwu wrapped up the massive triumph for the wasteful NWFL Premiership side when she netted 10 minutes from time in the final match at the Area 3 Sports Complex, Abuja.

Regardless, Naija Ratels FC and Paul E will represent FCT at the national finals of this year’s Federation Cup.

The triumph for Ratels comes just few days to their league restart against Royal Queens and they will look to bag a Super Six spot with positive results against Osun Babes, Rivers Angels, Delta Queens, and Bayelsa Queens.

Last season, the Abuja-based side qualified for the title-deciding Super Six on its debut season in the top-flight – a feat they will aim to repeat this time.
