Nigeria captain Ahmed Musa has explained his role of coming off the bench for the Super Eagles at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, beginning on Saturday.
As the three-time African champions prepare to face Equatorial Guinea on Sunday the 2013 Afcon winner assured of his readiness to inspire Whe West African side to claim their fourth African title.
“Everyone knows that I don’t talk to the coach whenever he didn’t start me,” Musa told media.
“I always give my best anytime and moment I come into the pitch. I depends on the coach if he thinks I can do anything on the pitch, he will put me.
“For the players, we are always ready. We know the important of this tournament.”
Under Austin Eguavoen, Super Eagles won all three group games but crashed out in the Round of 16 of the last AFCON in Cameroon.
“The last AFCON was a very sad moment for all the players and Nigerians,” he Sivasspor winger continued.
“We don’t want to repeat that mistake. We are doing all our best. We don’t want to talk too much but do our best on the pitch.
“We have quality players in our team and definitely the pressure will be much. We have one of the best players, the king of Africa. A lot of things have to change. I think we just have to talk on the pitch and not on social media. Insha Allah, we are going out to give our best to make our country proud.”
The role of Musa has been that of motivation and coming from the bench on recent times with the team.
The same can be said about Joseph Yobo when Nigeria won their last African title in 2013.
