Nottingham Forest defender, Ola Aina has relived the moment when he got close to scoring against Cameroon.
Nigeria defeated the Indomitable Lions to book their spot in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations quarterfinals, thanks to a brace from Ademola Lookman.
Although, the Super Eagles could have ended up with more goals when a crucial chance to extend Nigeria’s lead presented itself in the 85th minute.
However, Lookman who was on track for a hat trick opted to pass rather than shoot. He set up Aina whose shot was thwarted by a Cameroonian defender.
Despite not having a goal or assist so far in the tournament, Aina’s role in the team’s defense coupled with his ability to support the attack, makes him a valuable asset for the Super Eagles as they continue their quest for a fourth AFCON title.
Reflecting on the moment, Aina admitted to what he could have done better in a such situation.
“When I had that opportunity, he was coming first, I should have let him go like that and placed it but sometimes in the heat of the moment, decisions are made,” he told Brila.
