AFCON 2023: Sunday Oliseh voices concerns for Nigeria after Victor Boniface injury

By Wale Mustapha

Former captain of Nigeria Sunday Oliseh has expressed concern with the exclusion of Victor Boniface from the country’s 2023 African Cup of Nations due to groin injury.

The Bayer Leverkusen forward has not feature for the Super Eagles in any pre tournament games since he joined the team in Abu Dhabi and reports claim he will be out for six weeks as a result of the injury.

With 16 goals scored in all competitions this season, the 23-year-old is the player with the most goals scored in Nigeria squad and his absence will leave a huge vacuum in the attacking department.

Following the development, Oliseh shared on his X account that Nigeria would be badly affected if he is ruled out of AFCON.

“I have watched Boniface closely all season, and he is simply an extraordinary player! Him missing AFCON will be a bad blow for Us, he is in my opinion, definitely one of Naija’s best hopes,” Oliseh posited.

Nice forward, Terem Moffi is being lined up to replace Boniface in the team.

Nigeria will be getting their AFCON tourney underway against Equatorial Guinea on January 14 in Abidjan.
