Akor Adams was on target for Sevilla FC but his effort was not enough as they were held to a 1–1 draw by Rayo Vallecano in a La Liga clash on Sunday.
The Nigerian striker opened the scoring for the hosts and has now taken his tally to seven league goals this season.
Adams played the full 90 minutes in the encounter, while his compatriot Chidera Ejuke came on as a substitute in the 68th minute.
The result also means it is now back-to-back draws in the league for the Spanish side, who remain the record winners of the UEFA Europa League.
Sevilla’s first dangerous counterattack produced the opening goal. The hosts broke down the right flank and former Chelsea FC captain César Azpilicueta delivered a cross into the box which Adams tapped home.
Just two minutes later, Adams had the opportunity to double the lead after being set up by Alexis Sánchez, but his effort went wide. The forward also had another chance soon after but failed to convert.
Rayo Vallecano responded five minutes after the restart. Fran Pérez won a free kick on the edge of the Sevilla penalty area after being fouled by Azpilicueta.
The Spanish winger then stepped up to curl the resulting free kick into the top corner to level the score.
The draw leaves Sevilla in 13th place on 31 points in the La Liga standings.
