Akwa Ibom Government Dissolves Football Club Management in Strategic Restructuring Move

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde
In a major step toward revitalizing the sports sector in Akwa Ibom State, the State Government has dissolved the management teams of all four state-funded football clubs—Akwa United, Dakkada FC, Ibom Angels, and Ibom Youth FC.
The announcement, made by the State’s Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, follows the conclusion of the 2024/25 Nigeria Football League season.
This move aligns with Governor Umo Eno’s Arise Agenda, a comprehensive strategy aimed at elevating infrastructure, development, and performance across sectors, including sports.
During a key meeting in Uyo, Elder Bassey directed outgoing officials to submit handover notes within two weeks.
New management teams will be appointed to lead the clubs into the upcoming season, with a renewed focus on professionalism, strategic development, and community engagement.
Elder Bassey thanked the outgoing chairmen, secretaries, and coaches for their service, and emphasized that the restructuring is aimed at improving results on and off the pitch.
The initiative has received widespread support from stakeholders, including Akwa Ibom State Football Association Chairman Samuel Umoh and the clubs’ technical staff.
“This bold reform is the first step toward restoring excellence and competitiveness in Akwa Ibom football,” Elder Bassey said.
As the state prepares for a new chapter, fans and stakeholders alike will be watching closely to see how the new leadership will reshape the future of football in Akwa Ibom.
