EXCLUSIVE: Nigeria to Face Ghana in Morocco After Portugal Friendly in Pre-WAFCON Warm-Up

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

The Super Falcons of Nigeria will take on arch-rivals Ghana in an international friendly in Morocco as part of their final preparations for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The fixture against the Black Queens will come after Nigeria’s scheduled friendly against Portugal in Lisbon, providing head coach Justine Madugu another opportunity to fine-tune his squad ahead of the continental championship.

Sources close to the Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirmed the friendly, which will take place in Morocco—where Ghana’s squad, drawn into Group C alongside South Africa, Mali, and Tanzania, arrived on Tuesday, June 17 to begin their pre-tournament camp.

The Super Falcons are expected to move to Morocco after their Portugal outing, where they will round off preparations for the tournament that kicks off on July 5.

Details of the Nigeria-Ghana match, including the exact date, venue, and squad list, are expected to be announced in the coming days.

Nigeria is placed in Group B with Tunisia, Algeria, and Botswana. The nine-time champions are targeting a record-extending 10th WAFCON title, having last lifted the trophy in Ghana in 2018.
