Nigerian striker Henry Onyekuru, along with his Anderlecht teammates, stands to earn a substantial £35,000 bonus each should they emerge victorious against Celtic in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League Group B encounter in Brussels. Both Anderlecht and Celtic faced defeats in their opening games against Group B powerhouses Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain respectively. They are now poised to vie for the coveted third spot, securing passage to the UEFA Europa League.
Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad has reported that Anderlecht’s players, including Onyekuru, are set to pocket a £15,000 bonus for every draw they achieve in Group B. This represents a notable increase from the bonuses allocated during their Europa League campaign last season.
Onyekuru, who recently made his debut for Anderlecht in a 3-0 away defeat to Bayern Munich, has been in impressive form, tallying four goals in his last seven games for the club since his loan move from Everton.
For Anderlecht, their participation in Europe’s premier competition has translated into substantial financial rewards, with the club allocating £7.7 million for qualification. In the event of a victory against Celtic, the club would expend €1.5 million from this fund, while a draw would entail a €500,000 payout.
The substantial bonuses being offered to Anderlecht’s players represent a significant upgrade from the incentives available during their Europa League campaign last season, underlining the high stakes and competitive nature of the Champions League.
