Nigeria forward, Assist Oshoala has won the 2023 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award for record extending the sixth time on Monday night.

The FC Barcelona attacker beat the duo of Thembi Kgathlana (South Africa) and Barbara Banda (Zambia) to win the prize.

Oshoala had an outstanding year with the Super Falcons at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

She scored the winning goal as the nine-time African champions edged co-host, Australia 3-2 in the second Group A game.

The win was crucial in ensuring a Round of 16 placement at the tournament.

She also played in FC Barcelona’s success in Europe as the Catalan side won their second UEFA Women’s Champions League title.

She also won the league title with the team scoring 21 goals in 28 games, a goal better than the previous season.

She had recently won the award five times and increased her tally for the CAF Women’s Player of the Year to six, two better than compatriot, Perpetua Nkwocha who has won the award four times.
