Asisat Oshoala’s father condemns shirt pulling celebration

By Monsurah Olatunji
Asisat Oshoala says her father was not happy with her taking off her shirt after she scored Nigeria’s third goal against Australia in Thursday’s Group B match of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria overcame massive odds to defeat Australia 3-2 in a breathtaking performance in their second group match.
The Barcelona star came off the bench in the second half and added the third goal, racing into the box tucked in the ball from a tight angle, and sealed the victory.
She became the first African player to score three consecutive World Cup tournaments and celebrated the historic goal by running pulling off her shirt channeling her inner Brandi Chastain.
The five-time African Woman’s Player of the Year was not well received by her father, as she said; “My dad is definitely not happy with my choice of celebration but then again, Life is a collection of MOMENTS. #Alhamdulilah #Grateful #Moments.”
As the hashtags in her post #Alhamdulilah suggests, Oshoala is from a Muslim background.
