Interim head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Augustine Eguavoen, has expressed uncertainty about his future with the national team, admitting that he is unsure if he will continue in charge by 2025.
Eguavoen, who also serves as the technical director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), successfully led the Super Eagles to qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals, securing Nigeria’s place with a strong campaign.
However, sources close to the NFF have revealed that the federation is still in the process of searching for a foreign coach to take over the reins from Eguavoen.
Despite his impressive record, having lost only one of the six AFCON qualifiers under his watch, Eguavoen acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding his tenure.
“The World Cup will come, but I don’t know if I will be in charge or not,” Eguavoen told reporters in Uyo. “If I’m in charge, we’ve spoken about it. We know that we have to win every game, and we will approach each game as a final, so let that time come first.”
While Eguavoen remains committed to the task at hand, the future of the Super Eagles coaching position remains in limbo, with the NFF still contemplating the next steps for the team.
