Bayelsa Queens’ Vera Samuel: “We take every match as a Final”

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Bayelsa Queens midfielder Vera Samuel has praised her team’s resilience following their victory over Ghana’s Police Ladies, while also setting her sights on their next clash against Sam Nelly FC.

The former Royal Queens player is one cloud nine after the Nigerian champions edged Ghana Police Ladies 2-1 in their first Group B encounter at the 2025 West Africa Zone B (WAFU-B) Women’s Champions League Qualifiers.

“The win was great because we take every match as a final,” Samuel said.

“We played against a strong team, and I thank God for the victory. It felt good knowing we faced our equals and still came out on top.”

She credited the team’s collective effort, stressing that both the starters and substitutes contributed to the result.

“From the blast of the whistle, everybody was fully in the game until the final whistle. Even those who came off the bench followed the match closely and made an impact when they came on. The performance was a good one for every player.”

Looking ahead, Samuel refused to underestimate their next opponents, Sam Nelly FC.

“Every team in this tournament means business. I wouldn’t say they are underdogs; we see them as equals. By God’s grace, we are coming out victorious.”

A win over Benin Republic side will seal a place in the semi final of the tournament for Bayelsa Queens this week.
