Beyond Limits Edge Gateway in Ogun Derby to Boost Promotion Push

Beyond Limits Football Academy strengthened their push for promotion with a hard-fought 2–1 victory over local rivals Gateway FC in an Ogun State derby in the Nigeria National League (NNL).
The encounter at the MKO Abiola Stadium on Saturday lived up to expectations as both teams produced an intense contest, but the visitors ultimately claimed all three points to maintain pressure in the race for promotion from Conference A.
Beyond Limits made a strong start and took the lead in the 13th minute when Celestine Peter rose highest to head the ball past the advancing goalkeeper.
Gateway responded with renewed urgency and nearly equalised in the 27th minute, but experienced goalkeeper Daniel Aiyenugba produced a fine save to deny a powerful header from a corner.
The hosts eventually found their breakthrough late in the first half when central defender Abiodun Ayeni reacted quickest to a loose ball from another corner to fire home the equaliser in the 38th minute.
Beyond Limits regained control after the break and restored their advantage in the 55th minute. A well-worked move involving Mark Akpabio and Yusuf Saka created space inside the box for Akpabio to calmly place his finish into the top corner.
Gateway pushed for another equaliser in the closing stages, but Beyond Limits held firm through five minutes of stoppage time to secure a valuable victory.
The result keeps the 2024 NNL champions firmly in the hunt for promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League, although questions remain over their eligibility due to the presence of their parent club Remo Stars FC in the top flight.
However, with Remo Stars currently battling relegation, Beyond Limits could still become eligible for promotion depending on the final standings.
The academy side remain locked in a tight race with Inter Lagos FC for the top spot in Conference A. Inter Lagos maintained their lead with 24 points after a commanding 5–0 win over Abia Comets FC at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, keeping them one point ahead of Beyond Limits.
Beyond Limits will aim to continue their strong run when they host Edel FC in Ikenne in their next fixture, while Inter Lagos will be on a bye.
For Gateway FC, the defeat deepens an already difficult campaign as they remain rooted to the bottom of the conference and face the prospect of a second consecutive relegation to the third-tier Nigeria Nationwide League One. Their next test will be an away clash against Abia Comets in Aba.
