Bosso denies resignation rumours as Barau FC shock Kano Pillars in NPFL comeback

By Dayo Awoniyi

Barau FC head coach Ladan Bosso has dismissed speculation over his resignation after guiding his side to a dramatic 2–1 comeback victory against Kano Pillars on Matchday 9 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The newly promoted club came from behind to stun the hosts in Kano, securing a statement win that Bosso described as a testament to the team’s growing confidence and tactical maturity.

“We had a clear match plan, and for the first time, I want to give kudos to my players for coming from behind to win,” Bosso said post-match.

“Despite the controversies around us, we stayed focused and got our reward.”

Barau FC conceded early in the first half but rallied with two unanswered goals to claim all three points, continuing their steady adaptation to top-flight football.

Amid swirling rumours of his potential resignation, Bosso firmly denied the reports, reiterating his commitment to the team.

“I have not resigned and will not resign when the team needs me most. It would make no sense to abandon a side battling to rise on the table,” he said.

“My philosophy has always been to leave when the team is stable, not struggling.”

The former Flying Eagles boss credited the victory to the players’ discipline and added that a motivational bonus promise from club owner Senator Barau also played a role.

“That promise alone fired up the boys. They gave everything on the pitch,” he revealed.

Senator Barau had reportedly pledged a ₦150,000 bonus to each player if the team secured a win.

Despite the match being played behind closed doors, Bosso acknowledged the absence of fans but expressed hope that they would soon have reason to celebrate with the supporters.

Looking ahead, Bosso anticipates a challenging test in their next fixture against Abia Warriors, a club he previously managed, but remains confident in maintaining the team’s momentum.

Barau FC’s spirited performance has significantly boosted morale within the squad as they aim to continue climbing the NPFL table.
