Bright Osayi-Samuel dismisses contract extension rumours, focuses on Fenerbahçe title push

By Monsurah Olatunji

Nigeria international, Bright Osayi-Samuel, has dismissed rumours suggesting he rejected a contract extension at Fenerbahçe, insisting that his primary focus is on helping the club win the Turkish Super Lig title this season.

The 27-year-old, who joined Fenerbahçe from QPR in 2021, has undergone a transformation from winger to solid right-back, and is now valued at approximately €7 million.

However, with his contract nearing its end, speculation regarding his future has intensified.

Osayi-Samuel, whose name has been linked with a potential move to Premier League clubs such as Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, and Wolverhampton Wanderers, addressed the transfer rumours in an interview with Turkish outlet Aspor.

“It is actually difficult to comment on the transfer,” he said. “Many people act as if they know the subject. I play for Fenerbahçe and I am very happy about it. People say different things.”

The Super Eagles star was also quick to address the reports that he had rejected a new contract.

“It was said that a contract was signed and that I did not accept it, but there is no such situation. I have a very good dialogue with the president,” he continued.

He emphasized that his sole focus is on securing the league title, adding, “My only thought at the moment is the championship. We will meet with our president after the season is over and see what happens.”

Osayi-Samuel played a key role in Fenerbahçe’s 3-1 victory over Sivasspor on Sunday, a result that keeps them within three points of league leaders Galatasaray, with seven matches remaining.

“We need to focus on ourselves,” he said.

“We have seven important matches. I think we will be champions if we win all the matches. A valuable 3 points to continue on our way steadily. Every match we play is a final. Now we will focus on the next match.”
