Brooke Nunn clinches maiden A-League Women title with Central Coast Mariners

By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Brooke Nunn, of Nigerian descent and eligible to represent the senior women’s national team, has achieved her first championship title in Australia with the Central Coast Mariners following a hard-fought victory in the grand final on Sunday.

Nunn secured her third league title as the Mariners overcame Melbourne Victory in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw at AAMI Park in Melbourne.

After joining the Mariners last summer, Nunn was eager for a new challenge and expressed her ambition to elevate the club’s performance.

This determination appeared to enhance her creativity and mobility in a central attacking midfield role, contributing significantly to the team’s success throughout the season.

“I am eager to compete at the highest level this season and assist the team in achieving a better position in the league standings than last year,” she stated.

With the Mariners having just returned to the A-League Women after relegation, it was only a matter of time before Nunn would rise to prominence among a talented group of attackers.

She transitioned to the Gosford-based club from Hibernian and quickly integrated into Emily Husband’s first team.

Her rapid progress was evident during the 2024/25 A-League Women campaign, where she participated in 27 matches, netting four goals and providing three assists.

With this latest title, Nunn continues to attract attention as a player with multiple accolades, having previously won the Women’s Super League(WSL) in 2011 and 2012, as well as the Women’s FA Cup in 2012 and 2013.

Nunn is eligible to represent Nigeria through her mother, who is of Nigerian and German descent.

Her family has roots in Lagos, where her grandfather, Jackson Asiboje, served as a director of a shipping company based in Apapa, and she is enthusiastic about the prospect of playing for the Super Falcons, Nigeria’s most successful national team.
