By Oyediji Oluwaseun Babatunde

Ahead of the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, the 24 qualified teams have submitted their provisional squads.

A sigh of relief for the coaches of the teams is addition to the number of the squad.

According to the Regulations of the tournament, each Member Association qualified for the final tournament is to submit a provisional list of no more than 55 players no later than 14 December 2023.

In a related development, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Organising Committee of the AFCON has announced that the final squads for the Final Tournament will comprise 27 players, from the initial 23 from previous tournaments.

The registration of the four additional players on the final list is only an option and not an obligation.

The deadline for the submission of the final squads for the tournament is 3 January 2023, exactly ten (10) days before the opening match.

With this new development, the head coach of Nigeria’s senior women’s national team, Jose Peseiro has the leeway to select 27 players for the tournament which will kick off on January 13, 2024.

The Super Eagles reached the Round of 16 of the tournament last time out in Cameroon 2022.
