One of Rivers United forward, Paul Acquah’s hat-trick in a 3-1 victory over DC Motema Pembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has been voted the CAF Confederation Cup Goal of the Week.
A brilliant buildup paved way for the superb finish from the Ghanaian man to double Stanley Eguma’s side’s lead in the Group B encounter at Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.
A series of passes outside and inside the box eventually recived by Ghanaian import, Emmanuel Ampiah before setting up his compatriot, Paul Acquah whose left-footed strike hit the back of the net in the 56th minute.
Before netting his second of the match, Acquah had given the Port Harcourt-based side the lead in the additional minutes of the first half, before Kingu Yallet reduced the deficit for the Congolese side.
The Pride of Rivers, however guaranteed their triumph at home thanks to a late strike and third goal of the day from Acquah to increase his tally in the competition to five in four games.
The win was Rivers United’s third in a row since a 3-0 loss to Diables Noirs in the opening Group B game and puts the team at the top of the standings with nine points, two above closest rivals Asec Mimosa of Ivory Coast.
